The
Exercise Science, Health and Physical Education Department
is located on the second floor of the Student Development
Complex. In addition to housing the Department and classes,
the SDC houses the Athletic Department, Central Ticket
Office, John J. MacInnes Student Ice Arena (seats 3,250
spectators), Intramural-Recreational Sports Office, Peter
J. Grant Hockey Education Center, Recreation and Community
Programs, University Images, Portage Medical Clinic, and
Retail Operations administrative offices.
Also within
the SDC are a wood gym, a multi-purpose gymnasium with
four basketball courts surrounded by a five-lane 200m
track and a climbing wall, five handball/racquetball courts,
squash court, fitness center (cardio equipment/weights),
dance and adaptive sports room, rifle/archery range, and
separate diving and racing pools.
Surrounding
the complex are four baseball/softball fields, outdoor
tennis courts, a soccer field, and football/track stadium.
In addition, MTU owns a bowling alley and a billiards
room located in the Memorial Union Building, Portage Lake
18-hole golf course, Mont Ripley ski area, Gates Tennis
Center, and seven kilometers of cross-country trails directly
south of the Gates Tennis Center.
